Kialla West Primary School’s recent Italian Day celebrations kick-started the students’ study of Rome.

The day began with a parade, and a wonderful display of green, white, red and all things Italian.

‘‘We had Pinocchio’s gladiators, Leonardo da Vinci, gelati sellers, chefs, Mona Lisa, as well as gondoliers,’’ Italian teacher Rosa Corbo said.

Ms Corbo said the students planted a herb pot containing traditional Italian herbs such as basil, parsley and oregano and made large soccer balls using the recipe for rum balls.

The children were also entertained by an Italian performance called Tasty Tunes and were treated to gelati at lunchtime.
