The Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Chorus and shOUT Youth Chorus is set to deliver a spectacular performance in Shepparton.

The concert, A Change Is Gonna Come: Songs of Protest, Inspiration and Triumph, will be held at the start of next month and will include an afternoon workshop.

The concert is supported by Goulburn Valley Pride, 36 Degrees South Choir and Shepparton Theatre Arts Group.

36 Degrees South co-president Gemma Marchant said as a choir they really wanted to be part of this.

‘‘I think it’s going to be a brilliant experience,’’ she said.

‘‘It’s really great that we’re a regional area and they bring shows to us.’’

36 Degrees South co-president Wade Gregory said he would recommend anyone who was interested in singing, or even just music in general, to come along and support the initiative.

‘‘It’s a great opportunity to collaborate with such a large and skilled choir, and to exchange tips, tricks and advice about singing,’’ he said.

The concert will showcase iconic, stirring and beautiful songs from protest movements.

MGLC president Johann Du Preez said the chorus had been rehearsing since the start of the year and was buzzing about the weekend in Shepparton.

‘‘Throughout history, music has always been powerful in galvanising, motivating and strengthening communities of marginalised peoples,’’ he said.

‘‘A Change Is Gonna Come promises to be a wonderfully poignant and uplifting musical experience for all.’’

The show is on Saturday, July 1, at 2pm at the Shepparton Uniting Church Hall, 150 Maude St, Shepparton.

Tickets are $12 and include Devonshire tea and free admission to the Vocal Wellbeing and Performance Workshop at 4.20pm.

Tickets can be brought at www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=281834 or from www.mglc.org.au
