The Sri Lankan Association of the Goulburn Valley shared their culture with the community during a huge event on Saturday evening.

About 350 people attended the Sri Lankan Cultural Show at the Sir Ian McLennan Centre in Mooroopna where a varied display of traditions were put on show.

Sri Lankan Association of the GV president Mewan Dissanayake said one of the key objectives of the group was to share their culture with the community.

‘‘This was the first time we had had an event of this scale,’’ he said. ‘‘It’s the first of its kind.’’

The evening began with an official procession for guests Member for Shepparton Suzanna Sheed and Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Kim O’Keeffe, followed by the national anthems of both Sri Lanka and Australia.

Guests were treated to array of speeches, song and traditional dance before a cultural dinner.

‘‘Everyone had so much fun,’’ Mr Dissanayake said.

Mr Dissanayake said the evening was also a fantastic chance for members of the Sri Lankan community to come together.
