Festive cheer at The Deck

December 13, 2017

Nicky Laby from The Deck ready for a big Christmas.

Look up from the wisteria, take a hike up the stairs and you are on The Deck.

Now you have a birds-eye view of busy shoppers, chatterboxes and sunshine snoozers in the northern end of the Maude St Mall.

The cafe, restaurant and bar has been a hit since it opened two years ago with dance music, footy and soccer on the TV, plenty of laughter and roaring fun pouring out from its open balcony above Sports Girl and Harris Scarfe.

Manager Frankie Lagana said The Deck was built on good vibes.

‘‘This place is all about love and happiness,’’ Mr Lagana said as he sat at a corner table with staff members and mates enjoying a cool drink as the late afternoon temperature outside climbed.

Mr Lagana said things were looking up in the mall — and not just for Deck drinkers.

‘‘It’s definitely picking up — there’s only about four empty shops now. It’s busier and it’s safer at night,’’ he said.

The Deck is open during the Christmas holidays, including on Christmas Day when it will be serving food and drink from 4pm.
