In recent years Matthew Wardell and his family have brightened up Gordon Drive, Kialla, with their huge display of Christmas lights.

He said it was the second year the lights had appeared on their home in Kialla, but Mr Wardell has spent the last 15 years decorating his home.

‘‘We used to live in Arbour Ct in Shepparton and we’d close off the whole street,’’ he said.

Mr Wardell said each year he added to the ever-growing collection of lights and decorations.

‘‘I started when the kids were younger - when they were babies,’’ he said.

‘‘I sort of just started and it kept growing,’’ he said.

Mr Wardell said he and his family tried to set aside just one weekend to set up the huge display.

‘‘I’ve got six kids so everyone gets involved and helps out,’’ he said.

This year, Mr Wardell said his daughter added a special creation to the mix.

‘‘My daughter did the windows this year,’’ he said.

‘‘She called it a winter wonderland and put stuff in the windows for people to look at.’’

But the Wardell’s Christmas cheer and spirit does not end with their lights.

‘‘The kids dress up as elves and stand out the front handing out lollies,’’ he said.

Mr Wardell said it was best to check out the display - at 23 Gordon Dr, Kialla - after 9pm when you can see the full impact of the lights.

‘‘I’ve actually still got a few more to put up on the front lawn this weekend,’’ he said.

Mr Wardell said their decorations and lights typically stayed up until New Year’s Day.
