Last year veteran Shepparton musos Shane Muir and Ken Wong decided to put a new acoustic duo together playing songs from the 1960s to more recent music.
‘‘The theory is if we are having fun playing, then our audience will as well. So far so good, we are having a ball,’’ Mr Muir said.
Choosing a name for the new group was not easy with people referring to them as The Boys for the first couple of gigs, but a quick Google search revealed several other groups with that name.
Eventually they decided to keep it simple and go with Shane + The Wong Brother.
Mr Muir and Mr Wong have a musical association that goes back to the 1970s.
Mr Wong formed the well-known covers duo The Wong Brothers with his brother Gary that played across the Goulburn Valley and in Melbourne into the 1990s.
Meanwhile, Mr Muir has played continuously over the years as a professional musician in the Shepparton area.
He has steadily earned a reputation as one of GV’s premier guitarists, working with various groups including Varied Headz, Pout, Disturbance and his current band, Nudge This.
Shane + The Wong Brother will perform at Shingo’s Coffee Lounge, 173 Corio St on Saturday from 11am. They will also perform at The Secret Garden on Saturday evening. Tickets at www.facebook.com/thesecretgardengigs
