The age-old rivalry between Ford and Holden lives on with the inaugural Legends of the Mountain in Kyabram this month.

After a lot of deliberations, Colin Crane and Chris and Sheryl Hatch decided to make the event for revheads and classic car connoisseurs a reality.

The trio met as part of the Aussie Torana Legends Social Cruisers, a group Mr Crane created that pays homage to the Holden Torana.

A connection to the area for Mr Crane and the knowledge of the Hatches made Kyabram a perfect choice for the event.

‘‘Other than supporting the rivalry of Holden and Ford, we want to support the local community and the Goulburn Valley,’’ Mr Crane said.

With the help of Kyabram Lions Club and WD Motorsport event co-ordinator Steve Whyte, a committee was formed and the event took off.

‘‘The whole thing has happened so quickly and we don’t know how big it is going to be,’’ Mrs Hatch said.

Set across two days, the event brings three-time Bathurst 1000 winner Dick Johnston, two-time Bathurst 1000 winner John Bowe, Holden Motorsport manager Joe Felice, and Lewis Brock, brother of the late legendary driver Peter Brock, to Kyabram.

Car enthusiasts will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with classic vehicles and drivers.

The show and shine will feature House of Muscle and Peter Brock Merchandise trucks.

‘‘Everyone is welcome to bring their car along. It doesn’t need to be a Ford or Holden. We want to see all makes and models,’’ Mr Crane said. ‘‘Get your classic out of the garage, check the oil, fill it with fuel, check the tyres, give it a wash, and come to Legends of the Mountain.’’

Mrs Hatch said the event had had a fantastic response, with only a few tickets left for the Saturday evening with Bathurst legends.

‘‘The community have really got behind us and it’s great to have such big names coming to little old Kyabram,’’ she said.

The weekend begins with a ‘‘meet the legends’’ on Saturday, February 24, from 6.30pm to 8pm at the Kyabram Bocce Club.

The show and shine is at the Kyabram Showgrounds on February 25 from 8am to 2pm.

Entry is $85 for both Saturday and Sunday events.
