Performers: Peter de Jager on Piano, Melissa Doecke on flute and Ben Opie on Oboe

World-class musical performances will grace the stage at St Paul’s Lutheran Church for this year’s Concerts in the Chapel event this month.

The event began in 2015, showcasing renowned international musicians in an intimate and local setting.

Goulburn Murray Lutheran Parish assistant bishop Reverend Matt Anker said the events were a great opportunity for music lovers.

‘‘Tickets are often a fraction of the cost of the same performances in Melbourne where you would have to attend venues such as the Melbourne Recital Centre to access these artists,’’ Rev Anker said.

St Paul’s Lutheran Church was inspired to provide concerts after the church was rebuilt in 2014.

‘‘We felt compelled to share this beautiful space with the wider community, given the outstanding acoustics of the building and the long associations Lutherans have with supporting music,’’ Rev Anker said.

‘‘We want members of the community to feel welcome and at home in our church.’’

In partnership with chamber ensemble group Inventi Ensemble, a range of different performers have entertained audiences in Shepparton among other musicians who have reached out to the church.

‘‘It’s hard to believe the calibre of musicians who are willing to come to Shepparton and perform,’’ Rev Anker said.

Many of the performances are followed by supper and an opportunity to talk with the musicians.

The Inventi Ensemble is the next performance and will return as part of the Shepparton Festival on Tuesday, March 13, at 7pm.
