Czech violinist Romana Geermans and 10-string Spanish guitarist Matthew Fagan will perform as duo Gypsy Fire in Shepparton.

Gypsy Fire comes to Shepparton next weekend with gypsy swing and jazz in the style of Stephan Grapelli and Django Rinehart, being performed along with Celtic music and classical favourites by Vivaldi.

Gypsy Fire was founded by Matthew Fagan in 1997 and pioneered Gypsy Jazz in Australia with fiery performances at the Port Fairy Folk Festival, National Folk Festival, Wangaratta Jazz Festival, and national tours.

Romana Geermans is from Prague; she has twice won the prestigious Kocian International violin competition and at age 15 toured with the renowned Czechoslovak Chamber Orchestra for seven years.

Internationally acclaimed performer Matthew Fagan is one of Australia’s most versatile and imaginative musicians who has toured with celebrities including Natalie Cole, The Original Buena Vista Social Club, Billy Connolly, Shirley Bassey and Michael Crawford.

Gypsy Fire performs at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, 54 Poplar Ave on Saturday, May 12 from 7.30pm.

Ticket prices are $25 adult, family $50 and children under 16 $10. Door entries are $5 extra.
