Charge your camera, phone or tablet and start filming for this year’s #ShepProud video competition.

The Community Fund Goulburn Valley’s #ShepProud annual video competition opens next week.

The video competition asks the Greater Shepparton youth, aged between 15 and 25, to produce a three-minute video, telling what they love about Greater Shepparton.

Community Fund chief executive officer Andrea McNab said #ShepProud was all about giving a voice to young people living in Greater Shepparton who had positive messages and stories to tell.

‘‘The Community Fund has been astounded with the calibre of past entrants in #ShepProud, all of which have demonstrated a variety of stories... the common theme being that young people in our region are proud to be ambassadors of the place they call home,’’ Mrs McNab said.

The inaugural 2016 winning video was ‘‘This is my Town’’ by Lingraj Harhangi and Sophie Giuliani.

Their video tells the story of Mr Harhangi’s emotional journey to Shepparton at the age of eight and how Shepparton has become the place he loves the most.

‘‘For me, #ShepProud was a real motivation for me to get out there and give it a go,’’ Mr Harhangi said.

He said his video was a way of saying thank-you to the town of Shepparton.

‘‘If I was anywhere else I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I feel that is what Shepp has given me — a place where I can be myself,’’ he said.

Last year’s #ShepProud winners Matt, Claire and Brendan Macgill, of Lemnos, produced a music video Shep, Shepp, Shepparton.

Eldest sibling Matt Macgill said the video was a tale about their favourite pastimes and the quirks of Shepparton.

‘‘It was a cool opportunity, especially if you’re into being creative and if you grew up in this town. It’s pretty easy to put a video together about it,’’ Mr Macgill said.

#ShepProud opens at 9am on Monday, May 14, and runs until noon on July 20, with winners to be announced on August1.

First prize is $4000.

Runner-up prize is a $1000 Shepparton shopping spree.
