Dance your gym socks off with Goulburn Valley Grammar School’s opening night performance of High School Musical.
A night of dancing, singing and set authenticity can be expected at WestSide Performing Arts Centre, Mooroopna, from tonight until Sunday.
Production director Helen Janke said the students had been rehearsing since February, though rehearsals at the set began from Sunday.
‘‘We wanted to make the static set as authentic as possible so I described it to the students and showed them pictures but they hadn’t officially walked it until Sunday,’’ Mrs Janke said.
Zac Efron lookalike and lead male role James Worsfold said he was excited for tonight’s performance.
‘‘It will be my last production with the school and because of that it’s really important to do a fun production that everyone knows, everyone can sing along to, and everyone can have fun with,’’ James said.
More than 100 students and staff contribute to the show including 50 student cast members, band members and backstage crew.
‘‘Some of these kids don’t want to be on the stage but they want to be involved, so we’ve got spotlight operators ... we’ve got someone doing microphone changes, so they learn the craft of the theatre as well,’’ Mrs Janke said.
The musical features all original songs from the movie, including Bop to the Top, Stick to the Status Quo and We’re all in this together.
High School Musical will be performed tonight, tomorrow and Saturday at WestSide Performing Art Centre, Mooroopna from 7.30pm. Tickets from Riverlinks on 58329511.
