Close to 7000 people lived like an Italian for a day at the second annual Shepparton Italian Festa on Saturday.
The Shepparton Showgrounds was filled with the aroma of freshly cooked pizza, pasta and homemade wines as people enjoyed an afternoon of true Italian culture.
Committee member Melisha Iaria said they were blown away with the turnout, thanking everyone who came to enjoy the food and entertainment on offer.
‘‘It was excellent, we were really happy with the turnout. It is a huge event for Shepparton,’’ she said.
‘‘We received lots of positive feedback from people, especially for the children’s entertainment which was a new addition this year.’’
Run by the Shepparton Italian Social Club, the day attracted interest from visitors and vendors across Victoria along with an array of musical entertainment hosted by emcee John Barresi.
A number of Italian Fiats and Alfa Romeos were also on display, alongside the Muto family’s vintage Fiat that belonged to their late father who was a well-known bricklayer in the town.
Mrs Iaria said this year’s event also showcased a number of businesses including Ember Catering, Piccolo Pasticceria, La Porchetta, Pental Soaps, Meat Factory and Mr Sheppy.
‘‘We have plans for bigger and better things next year. We would love for more local people and their businesses to get involved by having a stall or being part of the day in any way they can,’’ she said.
‘‘All of us committee members are proud of our culture and we want to showcase the Italians around Greater Shepparton.
‘‘A massive thank you to all of our volunteers, sponsors ... we hope everyone comes back next year because we have got lots in store.’’
