Numurkah’s first flash mob choir is coming to the town, with a Karaoke Choir event this weekend.
With participants only needing a love for singing, community members can join in for a night of music and games with everyone learning a classic Aussie rock anthem in three-part harmony.
Hosted by Movies at Numurkah and Numurkah Foodbowl Festival, the night promises to be a laugh for everyone.
‘‘It’s a fun, music-orientated kind of night,’’ Movies at Numurkah treasurer and secretary Barb Sinclair said.
‘‘We’re going to have trivia questions and a sing-along while people are mulling around and settling in so we can loosen up the crowd a little bit ... then we have a choir master who will teach us a song in three-part harmony.’’
While the song was a well-known rock anthem, Ms Sinclair said organisers would not give away any more details until the night of the event.
Karaoke Choir is a first for the town, with the idea coming from the well-known flash mobs and pub choirs.
She said they would have someone videoing the night to put together a montage of the final song performance.
‘‘This is something new to try out and if it works we can make it an annual event,’’ Ms Sinclair said.
‘‘We want to get the message across to everyone that all you’ve got to do is have a look at those flash mob type choirs and everyone is grinning from ear to ear.’’
Ms Sinclair encouraged everyone to come along, bring some food and drinks and enjoy a night of entertainment.
‘‘Afterwards anyone who wants to bring their instruments along can and we can have a jam session,’’ she said.
‘‘It’s all about the music, it’s a bit of fun and a really light-hearted night ... we’re hoping to pack the town hall and really pump up the sound system and have some fun.’’
Karaoke Choir is on Saturday from 7pm at Numurkah town hall. Tickets cost $10 and are available from McPhersons Numurkah. For information, phone 0428752126.
