Murchison Meteorite 50th anniversary celebrations

Murchison is gearing up to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the meteorite landing.

Celebrations will be in the town across the September long weekend from Friday, September 27, to Sunday, September 29.

Program of events 

Friday September 27

9am - 5pm: View the famous meteorite and short films about its landing. Murchison Heritage Centre. Gold coin entry.

7pm til late: Dinner Under the Stars. Community Centre. SOLD OUT.

Saturday September 28

9am - 5pm: Meteorite display and short films. Heritage Centre. Gold coin.

10am - 10.30am: Unveiling of new meteorite display and labyrinth. Meteorite Park. Free.

10.58am: Big Bang at the exact moment the meteorite exploded 50 years ago.

11am to noon: Untold story of the moon landing by space expert Dave Reneke. Community Centre. Gold coin.

1pm - 4.30pm: Presentations by leading scientists from Australia and across the world. Community Centre. Gold coin.

8pm - 10pm: Secrets of the universe with space expert Dave Reneke. Community Centre. Gold coin.

Sunday September 29

9am - 5pm: Meteorite display and short films. Heritage Centre. Gold coin.

9am - 10am: Kids Treasure Hunt. Heritage Centre. Gold coin.

10am - 11am: Meteorite Hunt for big kids. Heritage Centre. Gold coin.

10.58am: Big Bang across Murchison at the exact time the meteorite hit 50 years ago.

11am - noon: Kids Space astronomy show with Dave Reneke. Community Centre. Gold coin.

1pm - 4.30: Leading scientists presentations. Community Centre. Gold coin.
