Fab time guaranteed for all at Lady Beatle show

By John Lewis

Amid the hullabaloo surrounding the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles' Abbey Road comes a different slant on the ageless songs of the Fab Four.

Lady Beatle is the magical brainchild of United Kingdom-born Australian singer Naomi Price and fellow Matilda Award-winning co-writer Adam Brunes.

Whoever thought a lady could be a Beatle?

Well, in these non-specific gender times - why not?

Lady Beatle packs 35 high-energy Beatles hits into an 85-minute show, with Price delivering the familiar tunes of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, Eleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine, Here Comes The Sun, Penny Lane and many more backed by a live four-piece band.

"We've stayed really true to the songs, but the show follows the mysterious identity of this female character so we've re-imagined some of the lyrics for a female singer," Price said.

Price said during her English childhood, she grew up listening to the classic songs of the Fab Four.

"My dad's family grew up in Liverpool and they were the first songs I learned on the guitar. I remember jiving around the lounge room with my grandma listening to The Beatles. They were the soundtrack of my childhood," she said.

"We tell some amazing true stories behind the songs - and it's incredible how people connect to them. The Beatles were game changers - and it's been fantastic to discover just how much people still adore them."

A four-piece band accompanies Lady Beatle on tour across Australia.

Favourite songs?

"Well, I love Paperback Writer because when I sing that I know I'm two minutes away from a glass of wine at the end of the show - but I also love Norwegian Wood," she said.

Price would be best known to Australian television audiences as Ricky Martin’s leading lady on The Voice Australia, which saw her reach the semi-finals in 2015.

She also counts Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Rumour Has It, Wrecking Ball and Ladies in Black among her stage appearances.

Lady Beatle is touring across Australia and comes to Riverlinks  Eastbank for a cabaret performance on Thursday, October 31, at 7 pm. Shepparton performers Matty and Jamie Hooper are the support act. Tickets are $49.90 which includes a one-course meal. To book, phone 5832 9531 or go to www.riverlinksvenues.com.au
